Cleaning can feel overwhelming, but with the right system in place, it doesn’t have to! My husband created this great free editable chore chart printable to help you create a household chore list cleaning schedule that works for the entire family. Having family members help out is a great way to get the weekly chores done.
Even though this printable is “technically” chores for adults to do, who says that you can’t enlist some help from the kids as they get older? There are certain household tasks that they can help with on the list which would help you out, too!
The moment that we implemented a family chore chart was the moment that I realized that younger kids and older kids could help out easily enough with age-appropriate chores. Teaching kids responsibility while setting daily routines was a game changer in our house.

Before the end of 2013, my husband was annoyed that our house wasn’t staying as clean, organized, and decluttered as we like. So, we decided to create a household chore list for ourselves. We kept it simple, easy to follow, and easy to check off. We laminated it with contact paper, and stuck it on our fridge so that we can easily check it off our chores during the day.
We figured out the best ways to set a new routine by using an easy to use chore checklist. The peace that came with having a clean house helped us all keep up with the daily tasks. If you can set up a weekly household chores checklist that works, the house will stay cleaner longer which means less cleaning on a weekly basis. This is great for extra motivation to keep up with the daily chore list so that the cleaning tasks don’t cut into our free time!
Each day our goal is to check off all of our daily chores. One of the daily chores is to do a weekly chore. And each Saturday there is a monthly chore. The Saturday chores do not need to be checked off in order, as long as each of them gets done at least once a month.
I think this system is very easy, forgiving, and adjustable, compared to other super long, super specific lists I have seen. The hard part is remembering to clear off the daily chore part each morning (and complete them all of course)! We generally take a break on Sundays from our daily chores.
While some of you may be aghast that we only wash our sheets, towels, and blankets once a month, or mop our floors once a week (we do generally vacuum more than once a week though – our dining room is carpeted so it’s a must) that’s honestly an improvement for us.
I always remind the kids that when you think of the entire house needing to be cleaned, it’s overwhelming. But when we stop and break the house chores up room by room like “just” the living room, and “just” the kitchen, the weekly chore list doesn’t seem so daunting at all.
Use free printable chore charts as a great way to motivate and assign different age groups a list of chores. The good news is that young children will be motivated in an excellent way to help out as they can, and older kids will join in, too! You can even set up a reward system for good behavior and positive attitudes when it comes to taking on and completing additional chores.
